Here's how to win:

People try so hard. Though we're all sinners, we're mostly not wicked people. The problems we have come from trying so hard to live better lives without realising we can't do it on our own.

And that ties God's hands.

We have to admit we're licked, give in, and hand our lives over to the care of God, because sorting these things out is his job.

Sometimes it takes a real crisis before we'll do this. We have to hit rock bottom. But things don't have to get so bad before they can get better.

God has shown us the way. He came to earth as a man, and died for us. But though he was God's only son, he was totally obedient, and let God decide whether he should be put on a cross to suffer for the sins of the world.

God knew best, and because of the death of Jesus we can all celebrate alongside of him for all eternity. He knows what's best for us, if we'll only listen.

Just stop trying so hard, and you'll hear what he's saying.
