We're in a hole

The various religions are like someone trying to get out of a hole they've fallen into.

Muslims say: You got yourself into the hole. You must dig your own way out.

Hindus say: The hole is illusion. Realise it doesn't exist, and you'll be OK.

But Jesus says: You're in a hole. Take my hand and I'll pull you out.

Because no religion has the answer, though it may ask the right questions. The Hindu scriptures say you can't approach God,  because of your sin, and the Bible says the same thing. But the Bible also says that Jesus took your sins upon himself, and your punishment, so that you could be as close to God as he is.

Religious people don't want to hear this, including some who call themselves Christian. They tell you that the way to God is in certain practices, going to the church or the mosque regularly, obeying certain rules.

Mostly, the rules are good. Going to church is good for you. But it's no substitute for the real thing, the healing grace of Jesus. Ask him to give you his hand, and he will raise you up.
