How I came to write this play

After the success of Into the war zone, I was inspired to try my hand at more drama. I attended the Page2Stage course at Bradford's Priestley theatre. I wanted to write something as different as possible from War zone:

When I started out, I had no plot in mind, except the way people speak without saying anything, because they assume the other knows what they mean. The original title of the piece was Monologue, because my two characters were talking without communicating with each other.

However, as further characters entered, the plot began to thicken. It began to be about paranoia, and I considered for a time calling the play Patriot Act, after the US "anti-terror" legislation.

The characters took over. They did and said things I'd never even considered. Were the two women lesbians? Was the man next-door a policeman or just a local tobacconist? Do we know who anyone is, or indeed who WE are?

I'm not really sure I could sum up "what the play is about", for instance in the classic matchbook piutch Hollywood requires.

I've offered it to a couple of theatre companiues, but so far there's been no interest. If anyone reading this would be interested in staging it, an email to karldallas@blueyonder.co.uk will get an immediate reply.
