He wasn't a wimp
Gentle Jesus, meek and mild, the old song called him, and he was kind and generous. After all, he died for you.
They hammered nails into his hands and he choked to death on his own vomit, and he did it for you.
That doesn't sound like a wimp, does it?
The religious people of his day hated him because he hung out with ordinary people. Some of them were drunks. People who slept around. People who cheated others out of their money.
He said he was a doctor, and doctors need to be with the sick. And even though they ran away when the death squad came for him, he still loved them.
And as they hung him up on the cross to die in agony, he asked his Father to forgive them, because they didn't know what they were doing.
It was us he was talking about.
Are we tough enough to be as tough as Jesus? Of course we're not. But he's still alive today, to show us how, if we ask him.
People will let you down. It's what they do. But he will never let you down.
